My Goodbye and Mrs. Mary Blackburn, Halifax Explosion Survivor 1915-2010 explore themes of loss, memory, and honor. In My Goodbye, Blackburn sits holding a bouquet of flowers while paintings of her grandparents hang on the wall behind her. Situated with her back to them, a disconnect is immediately apparent. However, by reconstructing and interrogating this mise en scène, she visually uncovers presence in absence. Through this creative act of reconnection, Blackburn records narratives that are both personal and historical, guided by messages of kinship and resiliency.
